Fort Wayne, IN – Continuing to look for better ways to treat patients and increase positive patient outcomes, the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority and the Emergency Medical Services Foundation, Inc. have chosen to change a device that has been used to ventilate patients since the inception of EMS. New studies demonstrate that over ventilation of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and cardiac arrest is detrimental to positive patient outcomes. The new device TRAA will begin using is called the Smart Bag® MO Disposable Bag-Valve-Mask. Implementation of the new bag-valve-mask (BVM) will help TRAA medics effectively ventilate patients with TBI, cardiac arrest and other ventilatory issues with the assurance that they are providing ventilations at the optimal rate and volume to help assure the best outcomes for these patients.
